For those of you who understand trademarking, copyrighting and the protection of intellectual properties, the title alone will make you salivate. If you're more of a mere mortal like the rest of us, then I'll explain. In Japan, a registered trademark is only valid for ten years and then needs to be renewed; however, if the trademark is not active within a three year period the protection of the said trademark will become invalid - unless you apply for a renewal. Nintendo have decided that it's high time to renew the Pikmin trademark protection and keep the franchise under their power. What does this mean? Read inside for details.
Basically, to put it very simply, it means that Nintendo are still interested in the Pikmin franchise - it means that it's very likely that a new Pikmin game is being worked on. However, it does not mean for certain that they're going to release a new game, or that they're working on one at all. Yet, all of the signs are pointing to a release as we all know that the current Nintendo consoles, the Wii and the DS are perfect for Pikmin. After all, Shigeru Miyamoto has said that he wanted to create a game where all you need to do is press the "A" button and that Pikmin was about a close as he could get. Well, with the DS and the Wii, it may be a far easier possibility of getting to that vision. Source: neoGAF
